We have been learning all about New Zealand:

New Zealand is made up of 3 island - an island is a piece of land that is surrounded by water.
The 3 islands are called : the North Island, the South Island and Stewart Island
We live in a town called Gore and it is in the South Island.
We have learnt lots about a unique bird to New Zealand the - Kiwi:

- We learnt that kiwi's sleep during the day and come out at night to search for food.
- They like to eat worms and bugs. They use their long beak to help them dig for their food.
- Kiwis cannot fly, even though they have wings - we learnt from the kids in room 4 that the reason for this is because they have dense bones just like humans, whereas other birds have hollow bones which makes them lighter and able to fly.
We have been focussing on Kiwi food:
Kiwifruit

Tip Top Hokey Pokey Ice Cream

Pavlova with kiwifruit on top

Kumara
Watties Spaghetti and Tomato Sauce
Pioneer Park Trip
We were lucky enough to go on a trip to Pioneer Park.
We learnt heaps of cool things! Ask us all about it!
Here are some photos of us at Pioneer Park.
A BIG THANK YOU to Chonelle's Mum Rachel for being a FANTASTIC parent helper!
We were quite interested in the school classroom, they had a blackboard and chalk, funny woodenn desks and chairs and they didn't have pens or pencils!! There were also no laptops or interactive whiteboards.
In the house there were no taps, they had to go outside and bring their water in buckets inside if they wanted to have a bath.
Pioneer Park is a wonderful place to visit!! If you get the chance, go along and check it out, your child will be able to guide you around!
